HDU is unique and different with the current Measuring Head Device which provides the traditional logging service in the way of the depth measurement. The usual Measuring Head uses spring loaded measuring wheels to measure the amount of wireline moving to and from the borehole. The measuring wheels are coupled to one or two optical encoders that transmit electrical signals via a cable to the hoistman’ panel and/or logging computer. While the HDU measures the amount of wireline cable moving to and from the borehole by using two independently depth-measuring systems which can be combined together and corrected each other.
